Himalayan salt bath – 3 great benefits for skin

Himalayan salt bath – 3 great benefits for skin

There is nothing better than relaxing in a steaming hot bath after a stressful day (well, apart from perhaps also consuming a couple of squares of raw chocolate!) But did you know that you could optimize your relaxation by adding a cupful or large chunk of Himalayan Bath salt?  It’s one of the purest salts on the planet, hailing from the Pakistani Himalayan Mountains and has existed for millions of years, containing an abundance of trace elements and minerals. If you like to partake in activities that put pressure on your body, such as any high impact exercise, weight-lifting or even the more gentle yoga stretches, pink salt not only provides a calming, soothing bath for your aching joints, it can also do wonders for your skin. Here’s how!

salt

1. If you suffer from irritating or painful skin conditions such as eczema, acne or psoriasis, Himalayan pink salt can bring great relief with its antiseptic qualities, and can enable your skin to heal. If you suffer severely, try having a salt bath every day with 2 – 3 cups of pink salt to heal where you may have scratched or scraped the skin, which will also help to avoid infection and help to clean open wounds where the skin may have split or bled. People who suffer from eczema might find they wake up having scratched in their sleep without realizing, so have the bath before bed-time to aid a more restful night.

2. Is your facial skin dry and in need of moisturizing? Add 2 tbsps of pink salt to a basin of warm water, mix until dissolved and splash onto your face, several times. Repeat morning and night for one week and you may notice you have softer, smoother skin!  You can also submerge a soft cloth into the basin, wring, and then place over your face. Good for your breathing too and any congestion or stuffy sinuses!

3. How would you like to make your very own exfoliating cream, made of only natural ingredients? Mash up one banana with 1/2 a tsp of fine crystal pink salts. Massage very gently onto the face, taking care not to go too near the eyes. Work your fingers in a circular motion. If you don’t fancy smelling of banana, try strawberries, anti-oxidant rich blueberries or for a cream that will last for weeks, mix 1 cup coconut butter with 2 tsp fine pink crystals. Mix well and keep in an airtight tub or jar. Next time you want an all-over body scrub, bring to the bath and work over your body, paying attention to the hard bits of skin on your feet and elbows. Rinse off with warm water and enjoy smooth, supple, soft skin. Add a drop of your favourite essential oil if you’d like to smell lovely too!

Enjoy!
