Ok, so there is no secret cure to prevent those wrinkles from appearing, but there are some vitamins that help with the battle. Vitamins are natural antioxidants and act on the front lines to battle the free-radicals which contribute to aging and other beauty woes.
This little post is dedicated to all those Vitamins that are beneficial to fight the raging aging battle. With that being said, this is not a blog post to promote taking every supplement under the sun, rather, you can get most of these vitamins from the food you eat – naturally! No need to overload the system with supplements. Without further adieu, here are the best anti-aging beauty vitamins and the foods in which they’re plentiful:
Vitamin C
- Citrus fruits (surprise?)
- Kale (now you’re surprised…)
- Bell peppers
- Broccoli, Cauliflower & Brussel Sprouts
Why it’s beauty-beneficial:
Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants, and is not hard to find. It is in plenty of fruits and vegetables alike. Vitamin C is fantastic in its ability to prevent and protect against free-radical damage and it is also an essential component of iron absorption. Vitamin C also has regenerative qualities, that meaning it helps to re-establish other antioxidants in your body. How’s that for effective?
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
- Nutritional Yeast
- Rice Bran
- Sun Dried tomatoes
Why the B complex vitamins are beauty-beneficial:
There are a great many B vitamins (if we’re going to be specific: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9 and 12) so getting them from one food alone is tough – while all are important, B3 is the most important when it comes to beauty. Vitamin B3 affects how your body takes energy out of fats and is also a power supplement for your hair, skin (moisture retention) & nails.
Vitamin K
- Kale, Collards & Spinach (Hey, notice anything here? We get more than just Vitamin K from these power foods)
- Onions
- Cucumber
- Broccoli
- Herbs (dry and fresh – Basil, Sage, Thyme)
Why it’s beauty-beneficial:
Dark under eye circles be gone with the help of Vitamin K! This vitamin helps break up blood clots and keeps things circulating in optimum form. Products all over the place are promoting Vitamin K in their ingredient lists, but the best way to get this little gem is through your food. It’s probably best you get it that way considering it also helps maintain the strength in your bones.
Vitamin A
- Red Pepper
- Cayenne & Chili Powder
- Sweet Potatoes
- Carrots
- The Greens (kale, collards, spinach, mustard greens)
- Butternut Squash
Why it’s beauty-beneficial:
Vitamin A is a big player on the free-radical field. It is well studied for having neutralizing effects on oxidation and the problems caused by that process: stretch marks, wrinkles and acne. Vitamin A is also good for keeping your peepers healthy, so be sure not to skimp!
Vitamin E
Foods containing vitamin E:
- Nuts & seeds (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, flax seed, sunflower seeds …)
- Vegetable oils
- Sweet potatoes
- Leafy greens
Benefits:
Vitamin E is a protector. This Vitamin protects your skin from free-radical and UV damage inside and out. It is no surprise that nearly every skin product contains Vitamin E! If your skin feels dried out, make sure firstly that you’re drinking enough water and secondly that you’re getting enough Vitamin E. It’s also great for your heart health (keeping the bad cholesterol in check).
So long as you continue to eat a plant based diet rich in the variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and legumes available, you can be sure that you’re getting all the beauty benefitting, age busting vitamins you need. If you’re still not sure, it is a good idea to take a whole food multi-vitamin as well – I’ll blog on my favourite in an upcoming post.
Until then, eat up!
